The Arrow-head (Sagittaria sagittifolia) is one helophyte today considered rare and included in the redlist of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature. It lives on the edges of the wetlands and small rivers and canals in a riparian habitat. It is characterised by a high level of "heterophilly" (different shaped leaves): the submerged leaves are ribbon shaped and narrow to resist the water currents, whilst the leaves which emerge are larger and typically sagittated.
