Cappiano Bridge. This building, commissioned by Grand Duke Cosimo I in 1549-1550 was built to enable an industrial type of fishing. The building acted as a barrier, blocking the flow of the water towards the River Arno Basin and so forming the Lake of Fucecchio, abundant in fish. Other structures related tot he bridge (the weir and pathways) helped to increase the catches of fish and allow stockage (the three tanks in the fish farm).
